How to Import Products from eBay to Shopify (3 Methods That Work)

If you already sell on eBay and you are opening a Shopify store, the painful part is rarely finding what to sell. It is rebuilding titles, images, and variants by hand. You can import products from eBay to Shopify with an eBay Seller Hub CSV, a product URL importer app, or careful manual copy. This guide walks through all three so you can match the path to your catalog size and how much cleanup you will tolerate.
eBay remains a massive discovery marketplace. In full-year 2025 the company reported $79.6 billion in gross merchandise volume and ended the year with 135 million active buyers. That traffic is why many merchants keep an eBay presence while they build a brand storefront they own. Shopify becomes the place you send email, SMS, and paid traffic you paid for yourself. If you are also planning an Amazon product catalog move or a Temu product import, the same rule applies: import the product shell first, then rewrite for Google.
Why Do Merchants Move eBay Product Catalogs to Shopify?
Most merchants open Shopify to own the customer list, control branding, and sell outside marketplace fee pressure. They are rarely abandoning eBay in week one.
Running both channels is normal. eBay keeps auction and recommerce discovery while Shopify becomes the brand home. A clean Shopify catalog lets you price for margin, run your own promotions, and stop renting every relationship from a marketplace algorithm.
There is also an ops reason. eBay listings are written for eBay search and item specifics. Shopify pages need longer descriptions, unique handles, and image sets that work without eBay's gallery rules. Importing the product shell saves hours. Rewriting the copy is still your job.
Inventory truth matters too. On eBay, quantity can look fine while your warehouse, 3PL, or other marketplaces tell a different story. Shopify becomes the system of record once you sell on more than one channel. That only works if the products you import are the same SKUs you actually fulfill.
Hot take: an eBay CSV import is a draft catalog, not a brand store. Sellers who publish marketplace titles unchanged lose the whole point of owning Shopify.
How Do You Export Listings From eBay Seller Hub for Shopify?
Use eBay Seller Hub when you own the seller account and need a bulk file. Shopify's own migrate-from-eBay help documents a Seller Hub download of active or unsold listings as a CSV, then a map into Shopify's product template.
Practical export sequence:
- Sign in to eBay Seller Hub.
- Open Reports > Downloads (or your region's Listings export equivalent).
- Choose Listings as the source, then export All active listings or All unsold listings. Draft listings usually cannot export.
- Download the file (often named something like
eBayProductDownload.csv). - Open Shopify's sample product CSV from Products > Import and keep that open as your mapping target.
eBay column names do not match Shopify headers. Common remaps include Custom label (or SKU) to Variant SKU, Available quantity to Variant Inventory Qty, and listing description HTML to Body (HTML). Work in a second sheet tab: copy Shopify headers across, then paste mapped values under them. Keep only Shopify template columns before you upload.
Shopify also ships a free Store Migration app that can accept an eBay CSV with less hand mapping for many catalogs. Use it when you want Shopify's first-party path. Use a remapped product CSV when you need full control over handles, tags, and metafield-adjacent columns.
How Do You Import Products From eBay to Shopify With a CSV File?
CSV is the right method when you need bulk control, custom field mapping, or a catalog too large to click through page by page. You build a Shopify product CSV, then upload it from Products > Import.
Shopify's official docs set hard limits: your product CSV cannot exceed 15 MB, and for new products the Title column is required (Handle is also required when you add variants). Image URLs must be publicly reachable over HTTPS. Keep every variant row for a product under the same Handle, or Shopify will split the family.
Suggested workflow:
- Export from Seller Hub and open the file in Google Sheets or Excel.
- Download Shopify's sample product CSV and copy only the headers you need.
- Map source columns to Shopify fields: Title, Body (HTML), Vendor, Type, Tags, Option names/values, Variant SKU, Variant Price, Variant Inventory Qty, Image Src.
- Host images yourself. eBay CDN links can change or expire. Download images, upload them to Shopify or a stable host, then put those HTTPS URLs in Image Src.
- Strip marketplace boilerplate from descriptions (Best Offer language you will not honor, auction-only shipping claims, eBay-only return policies).
- Upload under Products > Import, review the preview, then import.
CSV imports cannot be canceled once they start, and Shopify does not keep a friendly import history for rollback. Test five variant-heavy SKUs first. If the file is over 15 MB, split it and keep parent/variant/image rows together by Handle. For the failure modes that trip most stores, use our walkthrough on importing products to Shopify from a CSV without errors.
One more CSV trap: sorting the file in Excel can reorder rows and break which image belongs to which variant. If you need to filter, re-group by Handle before upload. When an option value changes on an existing product during CSV update, Shopify can recreate variants and break apps that stored the old variant IDs. Prefer creating new products cleanly, then editing in admin for small fixes.
How Do You Import eBay Products With a Shopify App Like Migratify?
A URL importer is the fastest path when you need individual public listing pages in Shopify without building a spreadsheet. Paste a product URL, preview the shell, then push it into Shopify as a draft or active product.
Migratify treats most public product pages as URL imports. Per Migratify's URL import docs, Shopify stores, Amazon, Etsy, Lazada, Daraz, BigCommerce, and many other public websites work by pasting a link. Captcha-protected sources such as Shopee and AliExpress need the Chrome extension instead. eBay is not named as a protected source, so start with URL paste on a public listing. If eBay blocks the fetch with a login or captcha wall, switch to the Chrome extension on a desktop listing page.
Here is the practical sequence with Migratify:
- Install the app from the Shopify App Store and open the Import page.
- Paste a direct eBay product URL (an item page, not a search result, category, cart, or seller storefront homepage). Use the + button for several URLs when your plan allows.
- Confirm the product preview, set draft vs active, optional collection, Magic Edit, or a price multiplier.
- Click Start migration. Only one import runs at a time. The job continues on Migratify's servers if you close the browser.
- If the URL will not validate, open the listing in desktop Chrome with the Migratify extension, pass any captcha, then import from the extension icon.
Plan limits matter if you are testing. Migratify's Free plan allows up to 5 products in total (not per month). Standard is $14/month with unlimited imports, and Plus is $29/month for heavier Magic Edit usage. Migratify also requires a paid Shopify plan; stores still on Shopify's trial need to upgrade before importing.
What usually comes across: title, description, images (with variant images when the source provides them), options, price and compare-at price, SKU and barcode, tags (up to 30 per product), vendor, and product type. Videos on the source page are not imported, and Migratify does not import customers, orders, or reviews.
Treat this path as catalog capture, not live eBay sync. Dedicated eBay connectors that keep inventory linked after every sale are a different job. We compared broader catalog tool choices in our roundup of the best Shopify store migration apps.
When Does Manual Copy Make More Sense Than an Importer?
Manual copy is slower, but it wins when you only need a handful of hero SKUs rewritten for SEO. Paste nothing wholesale. Rebuild the page as a Shopify product.
Use manual entry when:
- You are launching with fewer than about 20 SKUs and every page needs unique copy.
- The eBay listing is thin, keyword-stuffed, or written for auctions you will not run on Shopify.
- Variation structures on eBay do not map cleanly to Shopify's three option dimensions.
- You care more about Google ranking than speed of catalog transfer.
Manual does not mean starting from a blank page with no research. Keep the eBay listing open, reuse accurate specs, download your own product photos, and write a 300 to 600 word description aimed at search queries eBay never ranks for on your domain. That is the same rewrite discipline we recommend after an Amazon catalog import.
A hybrid works well for mid-size catalogs: CSV-import or app-import everything as drafts, then manually rewrite the top 10% of SKUs by expected margin before you publish them. Leave the long tail as drafts until you have time, or until paid ads need those URLs live.
What Product Data Usually Transfers, and What Does Not?
Expect the product shell to move. Do not expect marketplace-only assets or non-product data to follow.
Usually transfers with Seller Hub CSV or a URL importer: title, description HTML, image set (when URLs are public or rehosted), variant options, prices, SKUs when present, vendor/type/tags after mapping.
Often needs hand work: SEO title and meta description, collection membership, inventory quantities by location, weight/shipping profiles, eBay item specifics that become Shopify metafields, and Authenticity Guarantee or category policies that do not exist on Shopify.
Does not transfer via Migratify: customers, orders, reviews, gift cards, store settings, and source-page videos. Collections are not imported as objects either, though you can drop imported products into one existing manual collection during import settings.
Reviews are a separate job. If you need star ratings and photos from eBay, use our guide on importing reviews from eBay to Shopify. Treat products and social proof as two migrations with two tools, not one checkbox.
Shopify raised the per-product variant ceiling to 2,048 variants for all merchants on October 15, 2025, but you still only get three option names per product. If an eBay variation listing uses four attributes, split the product or demote one attribute to a metafield before you publish.
What Should You Clean Up After an eBay to Shopify Product Import?
Publish nothing until you finish a cleanup pass. Marketplace imports create drafts that look finished and still convert poorly.
Run this checklist on a sample of imported products:
- Handles: Replace auto-generated slugs that include eBay item IDs, promotional phrases, or duplicate titles.
- Pricing: Confirm currency, compare-at price, and margin after Shopify payments fees. Auction start prices pasted as retail prices will look absurd on the PDP.
- Images: Rehost away from eBay CDN links, drop watermark-heavy shots, set alt text, and attach the right image to each variant.
- Copy: Remove eBay-only phrases, Best Offer CTAs, and shipping claims you cannot keep; add specs shoppers ask about; write for Google.
- Shipping honesty: If fulfillment still ships in multi-week lanes or from a third party, say so on the PDP.
- Inventory: Turn on tracking only when your numbers are real; do not invent stock from a stale eBay snapshot.
- Duplicates: Search for near-identical titles created when you imported the same SKU twice.
- Mobile PDP: Spot-check the first screen on a phone. Marketplace image crops and long pasted descriptions often look fine on desktop and broken on mobile.

Should You Keep Selling on eBay After You Launch Shopify?
Yes, for most catalogs. eBay still drives discovery and recommerce demand, and cutting that channel on launch day usually shrinks options before Shopify SEO and ads catch up.
Run both channels with clear rules:
- Keep eBay for demand and categories where the marketplace already converts.
- Send owned traffic (email, social, brand search) to Shopify.
- Sync inventory carefully so one channel cannot oversell the shared pool. A one-time CSV or URL import does not do that for you.
- Differentiate Shopify copy so Google has a reason to rank your domain instead of a marketplace mirror.
When the Shopify store starts converting paid and organic traffic on its own, you can prune weak eBay SKUs. Until then, treat eBay as a discovery catalog and Shopify as the brand home.
If your next move is another marketplace catalog, the same three-method pattern applies. Use Seller Hub or native CSV when you own the export, use a URL importer when you need listing pages without a spreadsheet, and rewrite hero products by hand when SEO matters more than speed.
